World Conference In Dubai
The 2008 Global Travel & Tourism Summit will take place in Dubai from 20 to 22 of April. Members of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) will meet to discuss the upcoming events of the year and also to discuss the challenges and gaps from the previous one.
Last year the summit was held in Lisbon and ttnworldwide.com quotes Geoffrey Kent, chairman of WTTC , on why Dubai was chosen as the venue this year.
“The world’s leading example of a state that has successfully embraced travel and tourism as a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity.”
The main issue of the conference will be bringing about new jobs and wealth in the fields of travel and tourism, as well as developing the industry as well as dealing with related issues such as poverty, social and culture. The conference will also concentrate on the problems which have yet to be overcome as a result of industry growth.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports and chairman and chief executive, Emirates Airline & Group touched upon some of the wider issues in his speech.
“World Citizens” has great resonance as a theme for this year’s WTTC summit. Not only is it an apt description for most of today’s well informed and internet connected travellers; it also reminds travel and tourism operators that we have a responsibility to the larger industry and global environment.”
This will be already the 8th global summit, which gives members the opportunity speak out and be heard.
