At A Typical Georgian Party

Georgia is a country with gorgeous landscape located between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The country is not huge, with an area of only 69,700 square kilometers. Nevertheless, it has lots of things to attract the traveler. As early inhabitants of the Caucasus, Georgians have a special culture and traditions which can be noticed even in their unique alphabet, songs and dances.

Georgians are a people with a hot temperament. They are very hospitable and always present their guests with a rich table. And that’s why a guest won’t mind sitting at home with a  Georgian host family.

A Georgian party is a whole ritual with much delicious food of their own cuisine. The food should be full of different kinds of spices, which they adore. And it is not surprising that meat predominantly prevails on a Georgian table.

Georgians are also famous for their wine, which is exported to various parts of the world. They offer both semi-sweet and dry red and white wines. It’s their national drink and is always on the table, so be prepared for some serious drinking.

One thing that makes a Georgian party special is the behavior of people around the table. Usually the guy with a good sense of humor and the most talkative takes the responsibility of the toast master or, as Georgians call him, the “tamada.” He becomes the director of the party as he is the only one to suggest toasts. In a Georgian party it is sacred to toast both parents and those who have already died. When drinking such toasts men have to rise and drink in silence. It shows their respect for their ancestors.

Does that seem dull to you? Wait a minute! A Georgian party can never be boring. Almost all Georgians sing and dance in a way no other nationality can. All their dances are like well-organized performances made up on the spot. In no minute they turn the room into a dance floor. Everyone gathers together making a circle and takes part in the performance usually one by one or with pairs — not to disturb the rest and not to spoil the overall impression. Everybody is eager to show what he can do. Thus, the party turns into a dance competition.

You can travel around Georgia, relax on the fantastic beaches along the Black Sea, see many luxurious and also historical places and enjoy the magnificent panorama, but true Georgian nature is revealed in a real Georgian party. So if you travel there, don’t miss the opportunity to attend one. You won’t be sorry.
