In August last year, the Vatican created the world’s first airline for catholic pilgrims. Flying to Fatima in Portugal, Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Mount Sinai, the Holy Land and, eventually, Guadalupe in Mexico and Las Vegas in the United States, the aircraft owned are colored in the Vatican colors of yellow and white. In-flight movies on Vatican Airlines are even replaced by religious videos and destination information.
Cord Weekly posts the pre- flight report of Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the vicar of Rome.
“Walking hundreds of miles to arrive at a sacred destination will no longer be an issue. “The way to make pilgrimages can change over time, but their deepest meaning remains the same: to look for a deeper contact with God,”
Aircraft interiors decorated with sacred inscriptions such as “I search for your face, Lord” doesn’t yet mean that there are exceptions in terms of security. Indeed, according to CNN, passengers were recently prevented from taking onboard bottles of water from the Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral.
Pilgrims returning from Lourdes, France, on the inaugural flight had to hand over to airport security officials bottles of water they had collected from the Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral. Any container containing more than 100 milliliters of liquid cannot be carried in hand luggage.
