Titanic Life Jacket Sold Titanic Life Jacket SoldA life jacket from the Titanic, the “unsinkable” ship that struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City in 1912, has been sold for $68,500 dollars at auction. It is one of only six remaining life jackets kept by a Canadian family. The jacket hadn’t been take from a body, but was found on a beach after the catastrophe.

According to The Economic Times the auction at Christies in New York was dedicated to the history of transatlantic ocean liners and also included many other items such as dish sets, maps, ship logs and various objects.

Reuters reports that life jackets back nearly 100 years ago were quite heavy one and caused discomfort to passengers.

Dietrich said that the cork filling the jackets was so heavy that many of the survivors and victims of Titanic were found to have broken their jaws on them when they hit the water after jumping from the ship.
