Nowadays more and more countries in Europe limit or prohibit smoking in enclosed public areas. Among them are France, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Sweden and most of Germany. Starting from July 1 the same will also be true for most enclosed public places in the Netherlands.
However, there are still countries who keep some smoking oases. In cafes and bars located far from the city center in Belgium, for example, it is still permitted to smoke. Spain is also considered to be a smoker-friendly country and Austria has the highest level of public opposition to a smoking ban in the EU. The only regions which remain unconquered by the anti-smoking lobby are central and eastern Europe.
Interestingly, some think that the smoke ban is another kind of way of attracting people. FOXNews has more.
” I read of a far more intriguing theory: That smoking bans make restaurants more attractive to nonsmoking shut-ins” smarmy geeks who can’t handle their booze, much less conversation.”
However, a German entrepreneur Alexander W Schoppmann is planning to establish a “Smokers’ International Airways” especially for passengers who want to have their inflight smoking fix. In Japan there is even a travel agency which offers flights to Europe specifically for smokers.
