Mexico Huatulco Tourism Development  Mexico: Huatulco Tourism DevelopmentMexican president Felipe Calderon Hinojosa has announced that 54 million pesos (£2,577,386) will be invested in the development of tourism in Huatulco this year. The amount is five times more than the average since 2000.

Huatulco is a coastal town located on the Pacific coast of the Oaxaca state. Huatulco has nine bays, 36 white sandy beaches and numerous coves.The bays Bahi­a Chahue©, Bahi­a Tangolunda and Bahia Conejos are known to be rather developed areas of Huatulco.

The Federal Government, the Oaxaca state government, the 12 Secretaries of State, and the government of Huatulco have signed an agreement on the areas for tourism and economic development.

According to TravelDailyNews, both the government and the private sector recognize that Huatulco has a good potential for tourism development. They claim to cooperate with the local community to ensure all developments. President Calderon states:

“Huatulco will be the symbol of what the government, private initiatives and the public can achieve together following a clear action plan.”

During the next six years the government plans to start off building 2,500 new hotel rooms and to build boutique hotels in cooperation with prestigious international brands. Elizondo Torres, Minister of Tourism in Mexico highlighted the importance of cooperating with both national and international companies.

“It is important for us to work with international as well as national companies because they have the experience of the demands of tourism, and the aim for the development of Huatulco is to attract tourists from around the world”. Improving the quality of life for those living in Huatulco is an equally significant component of the development programme. Credit will be offered for local people to start small and medium sized businesses, and housing and education projects will receive considerable investment.”
