On Sunday evening the Majestic America Line’s Queen of the West departed from Portland for a planned seven-night round trip cruise along the Columbia and Snake rivers. However, a fire broke out the next day, 7 April, and everything was cancelled.
As U.S. Coast Guard announced, all 124 passengers were evacuated and none of them were injured. From 53 crew members, three were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but were later released.
Travel Weekly has posted the following information.
Majestic had informed all guests and currently is coordinating their travel arrangements. The company is offering guests full reimbursement for their cruise and a certificate for 50% off any seven-day Majestic cruise departing within the next 12 months.
By now the 230-foot ship is being inspected while the Washington Department of Ecology is taking shoreline protection operations along the river to neutralize the risk of any oil pollution from the disabled vessel.
