I think that the best way for global travelers to spend their summer holidays is to visit the awesomely wondrous, but at the same time deadly and dangerous volcanoes.
All of these volcanoes deserve to be added in your list of places to visit at least once in your lifetime.
1. Mount Vesuvius. Vesuvius, a stratovolcano in Italy, is considered to be one of the most deadly volcanoes in the world, as it is still active and there are about 3 million people living nearby. It has a crater of 2,296 feet, a circumference of 39,360 feet and is 656 feet deep. By the way Mount Vesuvius is a “home” for Vesuvianite–green, brown, yellow, or blue silicate mineral. It is the only volcano in Europe that has erupted during the last 100 years. It was Vesuvius that destroyed the ancient city of Pompeii in 79AD. Nonetheless, if you are a lover of extreme activities, your Italian tour will be incomplete without seeing this magnificent volcano.
2. Kilauea Volcano. Kilauea, which is located on the Big Island of Hawaii, is the world’s youngest and most active volcano.
Local inhabitants believe that Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes — Pele, lives inside the Kilauea. About 90 percent of the volcano’s surface is covered by lava. In 1959 the lava, caused by Kilauea’s eruption, sprayed about 1,900 feet high. Since the early 1980s the volcano has been actively erupting and is an excellent destination for the ones that are eager to see pouring lava.
3. Arenal Volcano. Arenal is a stratovolcano in the northwestern part of Costa Rica (it is located at the center of Arenal Volcano National Park). It is Costa Rica’s most active volcano and one of the ten most actives in the world. Arenal is a relatively young volcano and is estimated to be 7,000 years old. Until the eruption in 1968, Arenal was considered to be dormant. The nature and the surrounding of Arenal give you the opportunity to have wonderful hiking adventures.
4. Mount Mayon. Mayon is in Philippine archipelago and is its most active volcano. It has erupted 47 times since 1616 causing numerous deaths and harm. Nonetheless, with its perfect cone and majestic beauty Mayon is considered to be one of the most terrific volcanoes in the world. It was even included in the Top Ten New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2008.
5. Mount Etna. Etna, Europe’s largest volcano, is an active stratovolcano in eastern coast of Sicily. Ancient Greeks considered Etna to be home for Vulcan — their god of fire. It is the second most active volcano in the world and has experienced more than 200 eruptions. It has experienced both summit and flank eruptions. The upshots are very often catastrophic and the view, is horrifying, but unbelievably breathtaking when these two kind of eruptions occur simultaneously.
