Oaxaca is a city located in the southern part of Mexico and is one of the 31 states of the country. The city is large enough to be called Oaxaca, which in Spanish means “phonemically.” Oaxaca is the fifth biggest city in the Republic and has a population of around 3,506,821 people.
As Beatriz Casasnovas, its secretary of tourism says, the hotels in Oaxaca will be 80 percent occupied this year up from 35 percent in 2007. However, the prospects for 2008 are much better, and all efforts are being made to attract more tourists.
As Oaxaca Hotels reports, intensive work was carried out in order to make Oaxaca one of the favorite destinations in Mexico.
According the official said, the traditional Guelaguetza regained its strength as a tourist attraction of Oaxaca. Casasnovas said that intensive work was carried out to position Oaxaca as one of the favorite destinations for tourism in Mexico. “We have participated in fairs and worked hand in hand with tour operators to make people believe again in the destination safely.”
Thus, Oaxaca positions itself as the second state of Mexico that makes significant investments in tourism promotion.
