Armenian Karahunj Older Than Scottish Stonehenge
Armenia is an ancient mountainous country in the South Caucasus bordering Georgia, Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan. The country is small, but very historic and boasts a rich culture and national values.
Throughout its history, Armenia has been known for its monuments and locations which attract people thanks to their unique historical background.
One example of such sites is the old prehistoric monument called “the Armenian Stonehenge,” which is situated 200 km away from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The structure is made up of over 200 shaped stones, several bearing smooth angled holes of 4 to 5cm in diameter, directed at different points in the sky.
PR inside reports the possibility of famous Scottish Stonehenge being originated in Armenia.
Gerald. S. Hawkins, famous professor and world’s known specialist on stone monuments has acknowledged that Karahunj is 7,500 years old, which means that it is 3,500 years older than Scotland Stonehenge, older than Karnak in France and Newgrenge in Ireland. It may prove what some people already suspect that Armenia is the cradle of the civilization.

The sight is beautiful and ancient, well worth the visit. Astronomers from Europe and the US are showing increasing interest in the complex, and several expeditions have already taken place.
Interest in developing the site for tourism is already at the center of attention of the Armenian government, as Galiq.com reports.
“This territory will be developed for tourism,” said Samvel Musoyan, deputy chief of the Armenian culture ministry’s department for cultural heritage.
Funding has already been raised from Armenia’s budget to develop the tourist site for travelers and vacationers, build a transparent wall around the monument and for maintenance and security of the Armenian Stonehenge.
Of course, to truly compare Armenian Karahunj with Scottish Stonehenge it is probably better to simply visit Armenia for yourself to see what might be one of the oldest and most amazing observatories in the world.
