Argentina Develops Gay Tourism

Argentina has recently experienced a travel industry boom. Mendoza, Patagonia, and Salta are popular destinations for those who travel to the country. However, what might bring some unexpected profit to the market is gay tourism.

Also known as LGBT tourism, gay tourism is a form of niche travel for the those who wish to travel to gay-friendly destinations and to take part in the gay life there. Interestingly, statistics show that around 20 percent of all foreign travelers to Argentina are gay. There is even a special Argentine Travelgay website to provide gay travelers with more information on themes, tours, and activities.

According to Argentina’s Travel Guide the company also provides a special map showing all “gay-friendly” businesses in the area.

The company also provides a map which points out the city’s “gay-friendly” businesses. Buenos Aires is considered to be one of the most open and non-discriminant cities in South America towards homosexuality. In a flooded tourist market, niche branding is key, and Travelgay seems to have their finger on the pulse.
