Uruguay Sets BBQ World Record
Uruguay has set a new Guinness world record by grilling up 12 metric tonnes of beef overnight. It may sound strange or even funny, but more than thousand people took part in the BBQ party. A 1.6km-long grill was manned by 1,250 people grilling the beef, and more than 20,000 spectators.
After all that, it’s no wonder that they all screamed when the Guinness judge announced that the record had been broken. News.com.au quotes one of the volunteer cooks, who states Uruguayan beef to be the best.
“I’m very proud to be Uruguayan. We have the best beef and now we have the world’s biggest barbecue,” said one of the volunteer cooks, sporting an apron and chef’s hat.
The barbecue was organized by the National Meats Institute, known for tracking beef sales abroad. The vice president of National Meats Institute, Fernando Perez Abella has announced.
“Uruguay is very small, it’s not known for other events so we have to use these kinds of gimmicks so people find out where Uruguay is and what it has to offer,”.
