Flying with children can sometimes cause discomfort for both parents and other passengers flying with them. Such was the case with Janice Farrell who was traveling with her two-year-old son to New Jersey.
GADLING reports that the mother was doing all she could to calm the autistic boy,” but received “no sympathy from the flight crew.”
According to ABC news, Ferrell said that problems could have been avoided had flight attendants been more understanding.
“She kept coming over and tugging his seatbelt to make it tighter, ‘This has to stay tight’. And then he was wiggling around and trying to get out of his seatbelt. And she kept coming over and reprimanding him and yelling at him,”
This is how the mother presented the story, but an American Airlines spokesman says that the pair were kicked off the plane because the mother refused to comply with FAA regulations by keeping her carry-on bag on her lap.
According to AHN, Ferrell said she wanted to keep it as there were things in the bag that would soothe her son.
Regardless of who is to blame for the incident, one thing is clear. The pilot turned the plane around and headed back to the terminal before later continuing. The Ferrells say they will never fly with American Airlines again.
