The famous masterpieces have survived through centuries, and now we have the chance to study their excellence. Still, there are many wonderful works of art that don’t last long and can disappear in a minute.
If you are an art-lover and are looking for new tourism places, read on.
Every year dozens of talented street painters gather in Pasadena, California, to create the reproductions of famous masterpieces or their own works that will wash off as soon as it rains.
Street painting originated in Italy in the 16th century. The street painters (they were called madonnari in Italy because they usually painted the Madonna) were working day and night creating pictures in the squares, on the streets and even on the roofs using plain chalk.
In 1972 a competition was held in Grazie di Curtatone to display the works of madonnari. Most of the painters were already in their 90s. After the competition, this form of art started to develop, the new generation stepped in and brought in new ideas.
Today festivals and competitions of street painting are held all over the world.
This year on 19-20 of June the Pasadena Chalk Festival will be open to public and will offer entertainment to the visitors and a wide working space for hundreds of madonnari.
There will also be a Kids Chalkland where the kids will have an opportunity to draw cards for the Father’s day.
If you are good at street painting, you should definitely take part in this festival. On the closing day of the festival the winning murals will be selected in the nominees like Best Overall, Best Technique, Best Use of Color and others. The visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite mural.
The festival is definitely going to be an exciting event both for tourists and the painters. Hundreds of pictures are going to cover a whole street. You should take your camera along to take pictures that are guaranteed to be a special collection in your portfolio.
