Have you ever been to India in the spring? In case you happen to be there during this time of year make sure you take part in one of the famous India festivals, called Holi festival.
Holi festival takes place in March. The festival is a celebration of good beating evil.
According to a legend, there was a demon called Hiranyakashyapu who wanted all the people to adore and worship only him. But no one worshiped him and even his son Prahlad didn’t obey him. The demons made an attempt to kill Prahlad but they failed. In the end, Holika who was the demon’s sister, swore to kill her nephew, Prahlad. She sat him on a pile of firewood and asked the demons to set a fire so that Prahlad would be burned. But it just so happened that she was killed and nothing happened to Prahlad.
On the eve of Holi, people put aside all unwanted things that they have in their homes in order to burn them during the festival. The next day the Indians throw colorful water and powder on one another. The clothes of passers-by are ruined, but everyone is in a good mood. People sing songs related to Holi, pray and dance. During these days women prepare delicious cakes called Goojhas and offer them to guests.
Participating in Holi spring festival would be a fantastic experience.
