Belize - Another Sailing Destination
Belize is located in Central America and is the only country in the region with English as its official language. Before becoming a British colony, the country’s territory used to be a part of the Mayan civilization.
Belize is a small country with only about 300,000 inhabitants. However, it is unique in its culture and attracts millions of tourists from all around the world with its laid back atmosphere. Foreigners mostly travel to country to visit Mayan ruins or just to go sailing.
The shoestring Travel gives some advice for those who plan to go sailing in Belize.
If you want to go sailing in Belize, you better start at Rio Dulce, Guatemala. It’s a large river that spans around 30 miles and is the entrance to the Caribbean Sea. It also boasts of a lake-like stretch, which called El Golfete. This body of water becomes interesting the waters of Rio Dulce. For example, if you’re looking for some privacy, you can bring your yacht or boat to Roatan, the most developed in the Bay Islands. It features a very long ridge and unspoiled beach, which is great for water sports, canoeing, and kayaking. Utila, on the other hand, is the best destination for those who love to explore the barrier reef but aren’t licensed divers yet.
Those who have already been in the country talk about it with real excitement. The Nohea Lookbook blog shares the opinion of one traveller.
“Anyway, Belize was amazing! The pocket size plane turned out to be fun and while on it we got to see the beautiful green landscape sprawling across the country of Belize. We flew into Placencia where we met our friends and got our boat the Hakuna Matata. We then spent the next 7 days sailing from island to island, anchoring, snorkeling, diving, fishing, eating and relaxing.
I know I’m not going into great detail about this trip, but I will say it truly was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. I would go back in a heartbeat!”
