The worst thing that can happen on a vacation to spoil all your plans are problems with acclimatization and a mood-breaking cold.
In order to avoid these kinds of unexpected troubles, you have to know how to adapt in a new country, to stay healthy and fit.
- Start at home. Take showers, contrasting the cold and hot temperatures. This will help you to reinforce your immune system an be ready for the climate change during your journey.
- If you’re going to a water resort or a beach, try to spend the first one or two days in the shade and don’t go sun bathing as soon as you have landed on your chosen vacation shore. Swimming should at first be limited to 3-5 minutes, not longer, as the contrast of the hot sun and the relatively cold water of the sea can potentially cause overheating.
- Drink more water and natural juices. But don’t drink them cold.
- Among alcoholic drinks, better choose wine – not only because it is healthier, but also because it is one of the few drinks which are served at room temperature.
- In hot weather one of the most risky things is the air conditioner. The abrupt change of temperature from warm to cool air is the best way to land yourself sick in bed for a couple of days. So, avoid spaces that are air conditioned. In places, where air conditioning unavoidable (like buses or airports), always carry something warm, like a sweater.
- Don’t forget to take some medicine with you, like aspirin for reducing fever, pain relievers, sore throat lozenges and lip balm (change of climate can cause lip blisters).
If you follow these simple suggestions, nothing will stand in the way of you enjoying a great vacation!
