Munich Airport Experiences Passenger Volume Growth

Munich Airport, considered to be the best in Europe and fourth best worldwide, is experiencing strong growth in 2008. The total number of incoming and outgoing passengers has reached 7.7 million for the first quarter of this year. For the first time, Munich Airport has seen more than 100,000 take offs and landings during the first three months of the year. the comments of FMG CEO, Dr. Michael Kerkloh on the issue.

“With this performance, the Munich hub has stepped up the speed of its rapid rise in the rankings of the global air transportation hubs. This is a substantial boost to our economy and especially for employment and prosperity in Bavaria,”

Airlines have also increased the size of their aircraft to be able to cope with the existing situation. Average load factor has therefore increased by 1.3 percent although Munich says that this has not come at the expense of its reputation for quality. Michael Kerkloh sums up the results for 2007.

“Our growth rates in terms of total passengers and aircraft movements were well above the average annual increases indicated in the long-term forecast that comprises the basis of our long-term planning. Once again we have confirmation of the experience that has become a hard and fast rule: Munich Airport grows faster than every forecast,”
