Skybus Bankrupt

 Skybus BankruptSkybus Airlines announced on Friday that the company will file for bankruptcy on 4 April. Hundred of flights will be canceled and hundred of employees will be out of work. Company officials have blamed recent rising fuel prices and the present economic environment for the collapse.

News 14 reports that the company plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy early this morning.

Passengers with reservations should contact their credit card companies for refunds. Also, if you purchased travel insurance you can file a claim with AIG Travel Guard. More information is expected to be released on the company’s web site on Monday.

According to CNN, Skybus completed all flights before Friday, but has advised passengers with reservations to seek refunds from their credit card companies starting from the following Monday.

Skybus Airlines announced Friday it is shutting down its passenger flights — becoming the third airline this week to cease operations. The low-cost carrier couldn’t overcome “the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment,” the company said Friday. “These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.

Skybus is the third airline company that has ceased its operations after ATA and Aloha Airlines.
