The artistic director of the Manhattan Theater Club is suing Continental Airlines for one of the crew’s rudeness toward her. She is claiming that his behavior caused her much hardship and humiliation and escalated to her detention and interrogation by the FBI for destroying airline property, which she is denying. The incident happened last August, when Carolyn “Lynne” Meadow, was flying on a trans-oceanic flight to New York from Rome.
All the dispute began when Meadow was woken up by a loud conversation between Chris Boone and another attendant. According to GADLING, She then put her finger on her lips asking Boone to be quiet. Later she turned to the in-service manager, asking him to set up the movie screen of the sleeping passenger beside her, since her monitor control did not work. The boiling point, however, was when Meadow accidentally broke her monitor, when trying to put it back in the armrest, snapping it off from its base.
As The Sun reports, Mr. Boone had noticed the many requests Ms. Meadow had made, so confronted her in anger.
“You destroyed airline property! There is no way this could have come off by itself.”
[...]
“From the moment you ‘shushed’ me during takeoff, I knew there would not be enough attendants on this plane to take care of you.” Mr. Boone, she said, would not hear her explanation and told her, “The authorities will deal with you on the ground.”
When the plane landed, Mrs. Meadow was detained by police officers. She had to surrender her passport, was not allowed to make any phone calls, and, following a police interview, was transferred to an agent from the FBI. After an hour, she was released without charges and her passport was returned.
It is this that made her finally turn to the courts for retribution.
