American Airlines Launching Chicago Moscow Flight

American Airlines Launching Chicago Moscow FlightAmerican Airlines yesterday launched a new service from Chicago to Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport. The airline will use Boeing 777s providing 247 seats in a three-class configuration –16 in first class, 37 in business and 194 in economy class.

As The Chicago Tribune reports, there will be flights six days a week from Chicago to Moscow and daily flights starting from next May.

But American, the largest U.S. carrier, sees in Moscow the chance to benefit indirectly from high oil prices — the energy-price spiral has spurred economic growth in Russia and raised the spending power of Russians.

American will offer one flight six days a week each way between Chicago and Moscow, and daily beginning next May, to compete with Delta’s service from New York and Atlanta. No other U.S. carriers fly directly between the two countries, although foreign carriers such as Russia’s Aeroflot do.

According to the Dallas Business Journal, tickets to Moscow from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will cost $579 each way.

To celebrate the launch, the airline is discounting economy-class fares by up to 25 percent and giving 10,000 bonus frequent-flier miles for round-trip travel to the Russian capital. A discounted ticket to Moscow from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will be $579 each way, based on a round-trip purchase.

American Airlines have also announced that there will be language specialists on board in order to assist Russian-speaking passengers.
