Nightlife In Istanbul

IstanbulIt might seem that Istanbul is just a city offering only historical sights and mosques, but in fact it’s not. Istanbul is now a modern city which is no less famous for it’s nightlife, a unique part of which have become the the city’s rooftop bars.

According to Lonely Planet it isn’t that hard to find an affordable rooftop bar to party in.

The prohibitively expensive superclubs along the Bosphorus are the realm of the bronzed, botoxed and blinged. Fortunately, there’s an equally glamorous, but much more affordable, alternative - the city’s rooftop bar scene. Although these bars might not have the same sybaritic sheen as the superclubs, they certainly have their fair share of style.

The number of İstanbul’s rooftop superclubs has grown rather quickly. Those investigated by Lonely Planet offer their customers wonderful service providing live music and spectacular views. The prices for drinks are about YTL15-20 which makes $12-15.

Writing for Matador Study, an English teacher recounts her own experience.

“While going out is expensive, one will feel at the end of the evening, as if their money has been well spent. In Istanbul, atmosphere is everything- clubs and pubs are usually “dressed to the nines”, with plush velour, seaside seating, water pipes, hip music and cheerful chatter, in a multitude of languages.

For me, Istanbul is a spot to rest my rucksack while I’m turning the tricks of the English teaching trade, but my respect for the place and its people now goes beyond my initial pinwheel of tourist images. It is now my temporary home, and one that I see myself returning to. “
